GS-441524 is the preferred treatment for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP)
Pathology and treatment challenges of FIP
Feline infectious peritonitis is caused by the feline coronavirus (FCOV) mutant strain (FIPV) and is a highly lethal infectious disease among feline species worldwide. The virus is transmitted through feces and clinically classified into two types: wet (abdominal/chest effusion, accounting for 60% -70%) and dry (visual/neurological symptoms). Due to the lack of effective vaccines, traditional treatments rely on supportive therapies, resulting in poor prognosis.
The therapeutic advantages of GS-441524
Targeted inhibition of virus replication: GS-441524 directly inhibits virus proliferation by blocking FIPV RNA synthesis. Experiments have shown that it can effectively inhibit virus replication at concentrations as low as 1 μ M in CRFK cell culture and naturally infected cat peritoneal macrophages, while non-toxic concentrations in cat cells can reach up to 100 μ M.
Rapid reversal of disease symptoms: In a cat model infected with FIPV, after 2 weeks of treatment with GS-441524 at a dose of 5 mg/kg, the cats recovered and showed no significant toxicity. Clinical cases have shown that after 12 weeks of treatment (subcutaneous injection once a week), over 90% of FIP cats achieve complete remission.
Safety and tolerability: Compared with GC376 (another FIP treatment drug), GS-441524 has fewer side effects, with only a few cases experiencing mild fever or injection site reactions, which can be self relieved without stopping the medication.
Transportation and Storage Standards
